How to Travel Safely with Your Pet

Posted by Feeders Pet Supply on Nov 3rd 2022

The holidays are right around the corner, and you might have plans to include your pet in your travels. If you and Fido or Fluffy plan to hit the road (or the air) together, you may need to nab a few supplies before you head off into the sunset.

Traveling by Air with Pets

Sometimes, catching the next flight is the fastest point between you and all kinds of fun, but traveling with pets can be a little intimidating. With a few tools and a few reminders for safety, you and your pet will have a safe, enjoyable trip on the airplane.

First, make sure your pet is outfitted with a quality collar and ID tag. If your pet happens to get loose during the trip, you can be tracked down a lot easier. Also, it doesn't hurt to attach identification tags to both your pet and your pet's carrier, which can be done with a good stainless steel S-biner taglock.

If the airline you are traveling with allows small pets to be kept with you at your seat, a backpack carrier or rolling pet carrier can be an excellent way to keep your furry pal close. Some pets can get really anxious during a flight, especially if they have to be held in a strange area away from you. A Thunderworks ThunderEase Calming Collar For Dogs may be helpful for your canine, and something like Thunderworks ThunderEase Calming Spray For Cats may be a good option for a stressed-out kitty.

Traveling by Car with Pets

There's nothing quite like a road trip, especially when your best friend is riding shotgun—or, rather, in the back seat. Be sure to grab a dog barrier for your car to keep Fido safely tucked away in the back seat while you drive. As much as dogs can enjoy riding, if they are allowed to free roam in the car, it can put you both at risk.

Cats can be a little less excited about car travel, so it is always best to contain your feline in a comfortable carrier. For example, the Bergan Cat Carrier offers a soft structured shell with mesh panels and a window, so your kitty can be as comfortable as possible during your road trip.

Whether you are hitting the open road with a cat or a dog, grab a few supplies for the trip, such as:

  • A portable water bowl to keep your pal hydrated
  • A good harness and leash for walks when you stop for a rest
  • Treats and toys to keep an anxious pet occupied
