Usage
For more information, please refer to the full Prescribing Information provided in the manufacturer’s package insert or consult your veterinarian.
MilbeGuard Flavored Tablets should be given orally at monthly intervals year-round, or as otherwise directed by your veterinarian.
Manufacturer Dosage and Administration:
MILBEGUARD Flavored Tablets for Dogs are given orally, once a month, at the recommended minimum dosage rate of 0.23 mg milbemycin oxime per pound of body weight (0.5 mg/kg). MILBEGUARD Flavored Tablets for Cats are given orally, once a month, at the recommended minimum dosage rate of
0.9 mg milbemycin oxime per pound of body weight (2 mg/kg).
MILBEGUARD Flavored Tablets are dual-purpose and may be offered in food or administered as other tablet medications. The tablets can be broken for ease of administration. Watch your pet closely following dosing to be sure the entire dose has been consumed. If it is not entirely consumed, redose once with the full recommended dose as soon as possible.
MILBEGUARD Flavored Tablets must be administered monthly, preferably on the same date each month. The first dose should be administered within one month of the pet’s first exposure to mosquitoes and monthly thereafter until the end of the mosquito season.
Missed doses
If a dose is missed and a 30-day interval between dosing is exceeded, administer MILBEGUARD Flavored Tablets immediately and resume the monthly dosing schedule. Notify your veterinarian about the missed dose. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once.
If you have questions about your pet’s prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please consult your veterinarian.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature, between 68° and 77°F. Keep this and all medications in a secure location out of the reach of children and animals to prevent accidental ingestion or overdose. Tablets should remain sealed in their original packaging and only be removed from the blister pack immediately prior to administration.
Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture can affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store medications properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places).
Side effects
MilbeGuard is generally well tolerated, and side effects are uncommon when at the labeled dosages.
In a small percentage of treated dogs, digestive and neurologic side effects may occur. The following adverse reactions have been reported following the use of MILBEGUARD Flavored Tablets: Depression/lethargy, vomiting, ataxia (decreased coordination), anorexia (decreased appetite), diarrhea, convulsions, weakness, and hypersalivation.
Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any side effects, including those listed above, or if you notice anything unusual.
Precautions
Before using this product, please review the product label and full Prescribing Information for important safety information, including any relevant warnings and precautions.
For oral use in dogs and cats only. Not for use in humans.
Do not use in puppies less than four weeks of age or less than two pounds of body weight. Do not use in kittens less than six weeks of age or less than 1.5 lbs. body weight.
Prior to initiation of the MILBEGUARD Flavored Tablets treatment program, dogs and cats should be tested for existing heartworm infections. Infected dogs should be treated to remove adult heartworms and microfilariae prior to initiating treatment with MILBEGUARD Flavored Tablets. Mild, transient hypersensitivity reactions manifested as labored respiration, vomiting, salivation, and lethargy, have been noted in some treated dogs carrying a high number of circulating microfilariae. These reactions are presumably caused by release of protein from dead or dying microfilariae.
Safety in heartworm-positive cats has not been established. Safety in breeding, pregnant, and lactating queens and breeding toms has not been established. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian prior to use if your pet is in one of these groups.
Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to it or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements.
If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.

The following drugs* may have potential interactions with this medication:

*NOTE: This may not be a comprehensive list. As with all medications, please consult your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns prior to use. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when multiple medications and/or supplements are given together.
Please ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications, supplements, and over-the-counter (OTC) products that your pet is currently using. Your veterinarian may prescribe multiple medications, even if a potential drug interaction may occur. In these instances, your veterinarian may adjust the dosages or monitor your pet more closely.
