Usage
SMZ-TMP DS tablets should be given to your horse as directed by your veterinarian. Give this medication for as long as prescribed by your veterinarian, even if it appears the horse is feeling better. This will help to ensure the infection is all cleared up. Have water available for your horse to drink.
Missed Doses
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once.
Side Effects
Side effects may include upset stomach, diarrhea, loss of appetite, inflammation of the eye, polyarthritis, facial swelling, excessive thirst, excessive urination.
Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.
Drug & Food Interactions
Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim: warfarin, methotrexate, phenylbutazone, glipizide, digoxin, tricyclic antidepressants, thiazide diuretics, salicylates, probenecid, phenytoin, antacids, and cyclosporine. Contact your veterinarian if your horse experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. The following drugs can potentially interact with

This medication does not have an FDA approved indication for use in animals,  but it is a  common and acceptable practice for veterinarians to prescribe this human medication for use in animals.
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your horse has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your horse displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; widespread hives and itching.

Storage
Store at 68°F to 77°F in controlled room temperature, excursions permitted between 59°F to 86°F. Keep this medicine out of reach of children. Store in a childproof container. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture.
