Thyro-Tabs Canine (levothyroxine sodium tablets) are indicated for use as replacement therapy in dogs with diminished thyroid function (canine hypothyroidism).
This product is an oral tablet formulation.

Usage

Thyro-Tabs should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling the medication. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule.
This medication can be given either with or without food but should be given the same way every time to maintain consistent hormone concentrations.
Missed doses
Administer the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature (68-77°F, excursions permitted between 59 and 86°F). Keep in a secure location out of the reach of children and pets. Protect from light and moisture.
Exposure to extreme temperatures or moisture may affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store medications properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places).
Side effects
Side effects with this medication can occur with doses that are too high. When administered at the appropriate dosage, there should not be any side effects from this medication.
Side effects associated with overly high doses may include (but are not limited to) increased appetite, thirst, and/or urination; weight loss (despite increased appetite); excitability or agitation; and excessive panting.
Other possible side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, itchy or scaly skin, decreased energy level, ear infections, and rapid breathing.
Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet has complete loss of appetite or any signs of an allergic-type hypersensitivity reaction (including severe itching, hives, and facial swelling) occur.
Notify your veterinarian if your pet experiences any of the effects described above, or if you notice any other side effects that are persistent or troublesome.

Precautions

For oral use in dogs only—not for use in humans.
Do NOT use in dogs with thyrotoxicosis or uncorrected adrenal insufficiency.
Do not confuse levothyroxine with other thyroid medications, including liothyronine or desiccated thyroid.
Use with caution in elderly animals and those with treated hypoadrenocorticism (Addison’s disease), heart disease, or diabetes.
The safety of Thyro-Tabs Canine has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian if your pet is in one of these groups.
Do not administer to animals with a known history or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to this medication or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies.
If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.
Drug and food interactions
The following drugs* may have potential interactions with this medication:
antacids (containing aluminum, calcium, and/or magnesium), antidiabetic agents (including insulins), beta blockers (e.g., atenolol, sotalol), corticosteroids (e.g., dexamethasone, prednisone), digoxin, estriol (Incurin), fiber supplements (or high-fiber diets), fluoroquinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin), iron supplements, omeprazole, phenobarbital, phenylpropanolamine (Proin), SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine, sertraline), sucralfate, tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, clomipramine), and warfarin.

Please ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications and supplements that your pet is currently receiving. Your veterinarian may prescribe multiple medications, even if a potential drug interaction may occur. In these instances, your veterinarian may adjust the dosages or monitor your pet more closely.
