EquiSul-SDT® Oral Suspension

EquiSul- SDT® is an antibiotic combination used to prevent and treat infections. It is indicated for the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections in horses.

Sulfadiazine, Trimethoprim

EquiSul- SDT® should be given to your horse as directed by your veterinarian. Give this medication for as long as prescribed by your veterinarian, even if it appears the horse is feeling better. This will help to ensure the infection is all cleared up. Have water available for your horse to drink.

Shake well before use. When first opening, remove cap from bottle and peel off white foil backed bottle seal and replace cap.  Peel off outer cap seal exposing hole opening in the cap (bottle lid). Push an oral tip syringe into the cap opening. Invert & draw out the appropriate dose. DO NOT remove syringe while bottle is inverted as spillage may result. With bottle upright, remove syringe and administer dose.

Side effects may include upset stomach, diarrhea, loss of appetite, inflammation of the eye, polyarthritis, facial swelling, excessive thirst, excessive urination. Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.

The following drugs can potentially interact with sulfadiazine/trimethoprim: warfarin, methotrexate, phenylbutazone, glipizide, digoxin, tricyclic antidepressants, thiazide diuretics, salicylates, probenecid, phenytoin, antacids, and cyclosporine. Contact your veterinarian if your horse experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.

Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. 

Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your horse has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your horse displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; widespread hives and itching.

Store at 59°F to 86°F in controlled room temperature. Brief periods up to 104°F are permitted. Protect from freezing. Keep this medicine out of reach of children. Store in a childproof container. Store this medicine in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Store away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not store this medicine in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink or in damp places. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture.
