Levetiracetam ER (Extended Release) tablets are an anti-seizure medication used to treat animals suffering from refractory seizure disorders. Levetiracetam ER is often used with phenobarbital when phenobarbital alone does not provide adequate benefits.

Levetiracetam ER (Extended Release) 500 mg Tablets 60 ct: 17 mm, white, oval/oblong (biconvex), film coated tablet, not scored, imprinted with APO;LXR 500. (Manufacturer Apotex: NDC 60505-3280-06)

Usage
Levetiracetam ER should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian.
Missed Doses
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once.
Side Effects
Side effects range from sedation and staggering in dogs and reduced appetite, hypersalivation, and lethargy in cats. Changes in behavior and gastrointestinal effects could occur. 
Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.
Drug & Food Interactions
The following drugs can potentially interact with levetiracetam: NSAIDS, phenobarbital (may require dose adjustments).  In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. Contact your veterinarian if your animal experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, and a drug interaction may be anticipated. 
Cautions
This medication does not have an FDA approved indication for use in animals, but it is a common and acceptable practice for veterinarians to prescribe this human medication for use in animals. Dose adjustments may be required in patients with pre-existing kidney disease. Use with caution in pregnant, breeding, or nursing animals.
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.

Storage
Store at 77°F in controlled room temperature, excursions permitted between 59° to 86°F. Keep this medicine out of reach of children. Store in a childproof container. Store this medicine in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Store away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not store this medicine in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink or in damp places. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture.
