Product Description & Form

  • Slow rate of evaporation allows for greater distribution and penetration to all parts of the ear
  • DMSO helps in the absorption of fluocinolone
Active Ingredients
Fluocinolone acetonide, Dimethyl sulfoxide
Inactive Ingredients
Propylene glycol, citric acid monohydrate
Usage
Synotic® Otic Solution should be applied as directed by your veterinarian. Wear gloves when applying and/or wash hands thoroughly after application. Clean and dry affected area prior to use. Gently squeeze the prescribed amount of medicine (usually in drops) into the ear canal. Gently massage the ear. Allow product to completely dry before applying any other ear medications.
Missed Doses
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once.
Side Effects
Side effects are expected to be minimal with the proper topical use of this product. A transient, but mild, stinging sensation may be experienced by some animals when the solution is applied to denuded areas. The effect will disappear as healing progresses. A temporary increase in temperature of the area may also be noted. Possible side effects may include skin irritation and redness. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.
Drug & Food Interactions
There are no documented drug interactions with this medication. Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, and a drug interaction may be anticipated. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
Cautions
Synotic® Otic Solution may cause a garlic or oyster-smelling bad breath while being used. Do not use in dogs with damaged ear drums. Care should be taken to avoid contact of the medication with the dog’s eyes. Contact of the bare hand with the medication should also be avoided. Preparations with DMSO should not be used in pregnant animals.  This product is contraindicated wherever systemic corticosteroids would be dangerous because it is known that DMSO enhances the percutaneous absorption of topically applied corticosteroids and the veterinarian should be aware of possible systemic reactions in this situation. Adrenal suppression, weight loss and increased susceptibility to infections may be evidenced with the use of this drug, especially in over dosage.
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
Adverse Reactions
If you are concerned that your pet has experienced an adverse reaction to this medication, please contact the manufacturer Zoetis at 888-963-8471 or Vetsource customer service at 877-738-4443.
