Usage
Meloxidyl® should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Try to give this medication at about the same time each day (preferably after or with a meal). Package includes a dispensing system with complete instructions on how to assemble the system and dose the medication. Shake well. Measure liquid medication using the syringe provided with product. Routine laboratory monitoring is recommended prior to use and periodically while on this medication.
The container should never be used as a dropper bottle for administration of Meloxidyl®. To prevent accidental overdosing of small dogs, only use the small dosing syringe (blue print).
Missed Doses
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once.
Side Effects
The most common side effect is stomach upset.  Serious adverse reactions can occur with NSAIDs in dogs.  The most common side effects involve the stomach, liver, and/or kidneys.  Notify your veterinarian immediately if these side effects are observed: vomiting, change in appetite, diarrhea, dark or bloody stools, change in behavior, increased urination or drinking of water, lethargic behavior.
Other side effects may occur. Follow up routinely with your veterinarian while your pet is on this medication.
Drug & Food Interactions
The following drugs can potentially interact with meloxicam: oral anticoagulants, heparin, other anti-inflammatory agents, salicylates, corticosteroids, and ACE inhibitors. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely.
Cautions
Keep out of reach of children and pets. Not for human use. The safety of Meloxidyl® in dogs less than 6 months of age and in pregnant, breeding, or nursing dogs has not been evaluated. Dogs with known hypersensitivity to meloxicam should not receive Meloxidyl®. Do not use Meloxidyl® in cats. Acute renal failure and death have been associated with the use of meloxicam in cats. Use with extreme caution and continued monitoring in geriatric animals and those with dehydration, diabetes mellitus, or stomach, intestinal, liver, heart, and blood disorders.
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
Adverse Reactions
If you are concerned that your pet has experienced an adverse reaction to this medication, please contact the manufacturer Ceva at 800-999-0297 or Vetsource customer service at 877-738-4443.
